Quite an efficient alternative to Network Manager

Gnome users don´t usually have a problem managing their wireless connections with Network Manager included by default on the desktop. This doesn´t mean there aren´t alternatives to this program.

One of the best working ones is WiCD, a quite complete wireless network manager with a good appearance.

One of the principal advantages that WiCD offers is that it can be used by novice as well as experienced users, showing from the start the basic functions and showing the advanced options as we go along setting up the controls.

It detects different kinds of encoding (WEP, WPA, WPA2, and etcetera) and allows you to configure their passwords in a simple way. As well as this, modifying the local IP addresses and those of the DNS servers will be just as simple a process.

If you add to this a very low use of resources and a good integration with the Gnome desktop, we have in WiCD a worth knowing alternative to Network Manager.
